FIFA WORLD CUP EMPLOYEE FAQ

The FIFA World Cup is almost here, and Fulton County is proud to welcome visitors from around the globe for one of the world’s largest sporting events. At least nine nations will play matches in Atlanta, and eight World Cup matches will be held in downtown Atlanta. Six of those matches will occur on weekdays.

In addition to the matches, residents and visitors can enjoy the FIFA Fan Festival at Centennial Olympic Park, as well as numerous watch parties and events throughout the community.

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about how the World Cup may impact County operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Fulton County facilities are expected to remain open throughout the tournament. We will continue to prioritize service delivery to residents and visitors.

No. The July 15 Board of Commissioners meeting will take place as scheduled.

Yes. Fulton County employee parking lots and shuttle services will continue to operate during normal business hours.

Additionally, the Underground Atlanta parking garages will continue to honor monthly parking passes and contract parking arrangements.

Yes. MARTA will continue to operate throughout the tournament and plans to increase train service to accommodate higher ridership.

Employees may notice:

  • Increased security presence at Fulton County facilities and throughout the downtown area.
  • Heavier traffic around the Government Center and Justice Center Complex before and after matches.
  • Increased parking costs at some downtown parking facilities on match days.

Employees working downtown are encouraged to consider using MARTA or the County’s free employee shuttle service when possible.

Yes, some temporary adjustments have been made:

Magistrate Court Hearings

From June 8 through July 17:

  • Landlord/Tenant Hearings
  • Garnishment Hearings
  • Small Claims Hearings

will be held at the South Fulton Service Center on Stonewall Tell Road.

Small Claims Hearings will also take place at the North Fulton Service Center on Roswell Road.

Jury Service

Courts will not call jury pools on World Cup match days.

Some departments may make temporary adjustments to schedules or work locations for employees assigned to downtown offices.

If you work downtown, please speak with your immediate supervisor regarding any department-specific changes that may apply to you.

All departments have developed Continuity of Operations Plans (COOPs) to ensure services can continue in the event of an emergency or disruption.

Some departments may also use this period as an opportunity to test those plans and procedures.

Daily parking rates in downtown Atlanta may be higher than normal during the tournament.

Employees are encouraged to:

  • Use MARTA when possible.
  • Take advantage of the County’s free employee shuttle service.
  • Allow additional travel time on match days.

The FIFA World Cup will bring excitement, international visitors, and increased activity to Fulton County. While some operational adjustments may be necessary, County services will continue uninterrupted, and departments are prepared to support residents, visitors, and employees throughout the tournament.
