The FIFA World Cup is coming to Atlanta, bringing visitors from around the globe for one of the world’s largest sporting events. Atlanta will host eight matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium between June 11 and July 15, 2026, with hundreds of thousands of visitors expected to travel through downtown Atlanta during the tournament.
As the primary public safety agency responsible for securing Fulton County facilities, courts, and detention operations, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with local, state, federal, and international partners to ensure a safe and successful event.
Below are answers to frequently asked questions regarding public safety, courthouse operations, detention services, traffic impacts, and access to Fulton County facilities during the World Cup.
Frequently Asked Questions
Fulton County is proud to welcome visitors from around the world for FIFA World Cup 2026. Atlanta will host several World Cup matches, bringing increased activity to downtown Atlanta and surrounding areas.
Yes. Fulton County facilities will remain open and continue normal operations throughout the tournament.
Yes. Residents and visitors may notice an increased security presence at Fulton County facilities and in other areas throughout downtown Atlanta during the World Cup.
Yes. Traffic around the Government Center and Justice Center Complex may be heavier than usual before and after matches. Visitors are encouraged to allow extra travel time when conducting business downtown.
Some Magistrate Court services will be temporarily relocated during the tournament.
From June 8 through July 17, 2026, the following hearings will be held at the South Fulton Service Center (Stonewall Tell Road):
- Landlord/Tenant Hearings
- Garnishment Hearings
- Small Claims Hearings
In addition, Small Claims Hearings will take place at the North Fulton Service Center (Roswell Road).
Individuals with scheduled hearings should review all court notices carefully to confirm the location of their hearing.
