GREAT PROGRAM

The G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Training) Program is an evidence-based and effective gang and violence prevention program built around school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curricula. For officers to become certified they have to go through a two week course to learn and understand the methods described in the curricula.

The Program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership for children in the years immediately before the prime ages for introduction into gangs and delinquent behavior. The program is most suitable for youth’s grade 4th-8th. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Section targets the 5th grade student body, due to the upcoming matriculation to middle school and a higher susceptibility for new pressures. Upon completion of the program, the Community Outreach Section provides a G.R.E.A.T. graduation for all participants.
