SENIOR CITIZEN SAFETY TIP CLASSES

SENIOR CITIZEN SAFETY TIP CLASSES

In 1992, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Community Relations Division’s primary mission was to establish relationships with seniors. The office honored seniors with holiday lunches and receptions at senior centers and collected toiletries, food, cleaning supplies and other items for those in need.

In 2009, the Sheriff’s Office launched “Safety Tips for Seniors” which provides free classes to seniors on how to prevent being a victim of mail fraud, telephone scams, credit card fraud, purse snatching, mugging, burglary and physical and violent crimes. The classes are taught by qualified law enforcement officers and Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Reserves Unit officers.

The Community Outreach Unit often hosts holiday luncheons in conjunction with the Safety Tip classes at residential senior facilities and senior multipurpose centers. Contact the Community Outreach Unit to learn more.

There have been over 400 classes taught since 2009, bringing awareness to nearly 34,000 seniors in Fulton County.
